Just recently got hold of an old IMAC Rev A for free for my wife, and am trying to strecth it's potential:

Will be upgrading the memory, harddrive, and adding probably a Sonnet Harmoni G3 500 (or similar...)...

With some research found that FORMAC made a SCSI card (PowerRAID) for the Rev A and B. - CAN'T FIND ONE ANYWHERE ON THE NET - it's an 'old technology' card so usual sources don't stock it anymore. I'd be thankful of any direction this community might offer as to how to go about getting one - even a used one...

Thx. in advance! =VYTAS

Well, you've probably already found this link about iMac SCSI cards that connect to the "mezzanine" slot of the original iMac. You may also want to check out the information provided by lowendmac.com. These upgrades aren't easy to do. Remember, only certified techs should be screwing around with the iMac's internals, due to voltage issues.

memory and harddrive should not be too hard to upgrade. for the processor upgrade I don't really know, though.
for instructions try macworld

For what use would you like to build in the scsi card? do you still have a lot of gear that uses scsi? I had some stuff as well and it all got more or less redundant with usb. external harddisk might be a topic, but since you upgrade the internal one anyway, way go through all the hassle?

have you tried eBay to find that scsi card?

I used to have the iMac Rev. A
I upgraded the CPU with the Sonnet HARMONi™ G3/500 with a FireWire port.
Up the baby to 512MB of RAM, 120GB HD, and 6MB SGRAM.
Grabbed the Formac iProTVRAID card for TV and SCSI support.

hehe.. don't say it is an old technology.

Interesting, when I type iProTVRAID in the google search.. it gave me this

I have two such machines both given to me for free. It is not worth it to upgrade. OSX runs slow. Even with 512MB ram.

The processor is already a 233MHz. Going to 500MHz G3 isn't much of a boost.

Use it for what you can (mine serves iTunes files), but save your money.
