There are a couple of threads on this in the peripherals forum right now that you may want to check out. However, for what you're asking I'd guess the one you might be most interested in is the $110 version of the Alchemy PCI based TV tuner. It's about the best price/performance for a Tower Mac. There may be still be a few slightly cheaper USB external tuners, but they tend to suffer from dropped frames and lower res. regards.......joe

If you're just wanting to watch TV, the AlchemyTV card is the way to go. You can get the DVR version to record shows at scheduled times, but it's less feature-rich that an EyeTV.

I second this. Although I do not have one yet, it is the cheapest solution that seems to work well with software that you already have (ical & quicktime). Out of curiousity what makes features does the EyeTV that the AlchemyTV doesn't?

EyeTV can act more like a TiVo, pulling scheduling data off TitanTV's scheduling system and automatically record shows no matter what time they're on. The AlchemyTV acts more like a digital VCR, meaning you have to set the time for when something is recording and the channel. I've also found the software to be a bit flaky but the latest updates seemed to have improved that.
