I started a thread way back in the Off Topic forum here when he was thinking of getting a Mac, but now he actually got it. It's a dual G5 2.0.

I thought you guys might be interested.

Eug, I never knew you cared.
Yes, I know I could buy a PC, but why?

We all care. Your word carries a lot of weight with people Apple's been working hard to get through to. Good luck with your G5, you'll enjoy it.

Err... My guess is that Anand isn't Anand. Well, he is, but he isn't. Or something like that.

The guy's review sounds like anything I could read on this board.

Nothing special. Just because a Win guy isn't biased doesn't make him Nathaniel Hawthorne.

I can't understand why he's getting such blowjob reports here on macnn. Do I need some Win guy to tell me how I should think about my Mac?

... because his site is one of the most credible and heavily referenced tech sites among hardcore PC users. Who would you sooner believe when they tell you something you're skeptical of: Some random moron off the street (one of us) or a guy that you know has a good reputation and a lot of credibility?

If you've got a Mac, it probably is of no interest to you. And he hasn't even posted a review yet, just first impressions.

The significance is more to people like myself who are on the fence about buying a Mac. I am far more likely to trust Anand's evaluation, as he is coming from a similar perspective to myself, than any comments I read from Mac users on a Mac board. With a few great exceptions, I found most of Hawthorne's stuff kind of dull anyway.

AnandTech's readership is not Mac-lots, and its readership is huge. And if you haven't figured it out yet, that is the point.

A positive but fair review from AnandTech will go a lot further to help expose Macs to the rest of the world than some random post in a Mac forum. I suspect AnandTech gets more readers than all the major Mac websites combined.

Talk about yet another useless post from Simon. It's comments like these that give Mac users a bad name.

Lame attempt at getting personal.

Grow up. It will make you look more like what you want to be.

If his report is only important for Win people, why make such a fuss about it on a Mac board? Yawn.

If you have something useful to contribute, I'm still waiting to read it.

Basically all you've written is negative criticism and insults.

It's all this guy's report is worth to me.

Show me one insult. It's just that I'm extremely underwhelmed with this guy's writing and I'm amazed that you need to make two (!) threads about nothing.

End of story.

Ha, bingo.

What I thought. It's not about content, it's about your thread count.

Then how about you stop crapping in this forum with useless threads about even more useless reports from PC people?

Care to offer something of interest? Seldom do I see you helping people... Try that for a change and, again: grow up.

Shut up Simon.

If you're too limited to see the potential of having the man behind the most popular tech site on the net go Mac for a month and having a positive experience in the end... ...just shut up.

Just because Simon fails to find this interesting, doesn't mean there aren't those of us who do.

If it doesn't interest you, then don't read it

Thank you for bringing it to my attention, Eug (from one who DOES find it noteworthy).

(I'm a dual platform user and have been reading Anandtech for several years now. It is one of the most credible PC hardware sites on the web.)

Anand's site and reviews are generally very good. Granted, most of them cater to hobbists and gamers, but there are some that matter to professionals, too. His CPU articles are very indepth and interesting.

His forums, on the other hand, are filled to the brim with pubescent gamer freaks that couldn't possibly fathom spending more than $300 on a computer (sans the video card for which they'll spend $400 alone), while they complain that Intel and Apple products are overpriced. Anyone who likes nVidia is an nVidiot, ATI folks are ATIdiots, and AMD is to be given goat sacrifices for selling sub $70 processors. Don't go there expecting to get any useful opinions. Actually, Eug is one of the few sensible posters there, and contributes to the few interesting threads.

Anyway, I think if Anand decides to keep using his Mac after a month, perhaps we'll see more Apple exposure in a positive light on his site, which is certainly a good thing.
