Hi guys, I have not much experience with cubes (I just got one as a present).

I need a display.

I wonder if the "Apple 17" LCD Studio Display, or 17" ASD as Apple's own web pages like to call it". Will it work with an original Cube 450 without any additional hardware?

Additionally, what do you think a used, pristine condition, shipping included is worth?

Is $485 a good deal?

See photo (one of them, not sure)

Thanks,

I think you need a 32 meg video card. Check the requirements on Apples site for the display.

It'll work fine. The cube as it is can drive a 22" cinema display so yeah

Yes (it's what I use on my Cube ... a very natural combination, I find). The only display that don't work are the new 20" + 23" models.

I am running the 17" Studio Display on my 450 MHz Cube - without any additional hardware. I do have a 32mb graphics card though. And IMHO you won't find anything that goes better with your cube (maybe the 22", but... ah, nevermind, I don't want to think about that beauty too much)

FWIW, there's a great cube-centric site that I have found to be quite helpful:

Cubeowner

Enjoy your cube (I just received one as a gift last weekend).

I rana 450mhz cube with an Apple 17" ASD for about a year... No problems, and a very cool setup!

Never had so many complements on my setup as I did then!

Peace,

Marc

Would you buy a new one (edu $599), or get a used one in perfect conditions for $485 shipping included)?

I'm always a fan of a warranty (learned from expereince)... If the used one is covered by Applecare, I would buy it. If not, I would go for the new one.

In some cases it makes sense to buy new, but when it is only a smallish amount involved, I would go new and avoid the dead pixels, image burn in, and wear and tear the used unit may have.

Good luck with it,

Marc

Sorry mate!

There are always exceptions for buying from other MacNNers!
