I know there are several Mac dedicated magazines available. I personally have had two subscriptions: Macworld and MacAddict. I really like MacAddict because of the layout of the information in their publication and the free CD with every issue is very nice.

I like both MacAddict and Macformat. MacAddict is more fun to read. Their contributing writers say funny stuff. Macformat is great because they are VERY thorough with reviews, very serious about comparing Mac-compatible software and promoting use of Macs as a life style. Plus they also have free CDs.

I've never heard of Macformat. I'll have to look into it.

I'm curious why people think the CD is worth anything. While I really like MacAddict magazine, it seems to me that most everything on the included CD can just be downloaded directly from the various vendors (and downloading usually guarantees the latest version of software.) Why do people like the CDs?

Back when I was stupid enough to pay to read editorials that I could get online for free from other web sites, it was MacAddict that I subscribed to.

I too read mac addict and mac world. I realized that subscribing was silly because I already knew most of what the mags had to say b/c of my participation to forums like this and keeping apprised of what was going on in the mac community online. I would not get a mag unless you really don't spend time on the internet and keep up to date on Apple products.

I have MacWorld but only because it is free for the next couple months. I think the mag is ok. I wouldn't pay for it though.

Someone mentioned that a lot of what is on the CD's that come with the magazines is available on the internet. This is probably true, however, having it in CD format makes it easer to access since it's all there in one place. Besides, I just like getting stuff like that.

MacFormat is the best. It gives really good reviews and very good HOWTO articles that I can give to friends if they have any questions. It is a bit pricey here in Japan, but most publications from the UK are. Yes most have online versions but in order to receive archived articles you usually have to pay. I keep mine in a box or just rip out useful articles and keep them in a folder or even scan them and save them on my Mac. Also, it is sometimes easier to look at a magazine on a crowded train than a laptop (but who can connect to the internet on a commuter train anyways).
