I think I'm right in saying that the machine has AGP x2, and I was wondering if there are any 32MB+ gfx cards that are QE compatible for this machine?

Cheers,

Also, not to takee over the thread, but same kind of Q. Would a Radeon 9600 from a G5 work in a Sawtooth G4? (Just thinking for when i replace the gfx card in the G5).

There are quite a few cards that will work. Cheap end, would be a used Geforce 4 MX or a used Radeon 7000 (the reatail 7000's are PCI-- you'd need an OEM AGP card-- ebay?) Better would be a Radeon 9000, and best would be a GeForce 4 TI or a Radeon 9600 0r 9800. Those should all work.

Geforce 2 and 3 will also work, but Cube owners have driven up the price on those.

Nvidia cards are said to have some problems because they require high voltage. When the GF3 was being sold by Apple they said the 100Mhz PMs were not supported. Anyway, ATI is the best bet.

There is also a 1.4Ghz G4 card for your machine to get some more speed out of. See the review at macuser.co.uk

Try to find a Radeon 7500 or 9000. Any other card (GF4, Radeon 9600, 9800) in a machine that slow would be a waste of your money.

Yup. GeForce 4MX. 70 bucks (when I got mine): no-brainer.

However. These cards are incompatible with 10.3.0 and 10.3.1, so do your upgrading to 10.3.2 before you install the new card.

That's only in Sawtooth machines. The Dual 450 is a Mystic.

I picked up an ASUS V7100 Pro (64 MB) for about $40 Cdn last summer. It's a GeForce 2 card, and, once flashed, fully supports Quartz Extreme.

Thanks for the information all!

Just to clarify, do I have to find a Mac specific GF4 MX, or will any brand do?
