I have an older 60GB ATA133 drive that served as my home folder on my poor old, now dead 400mhz B/W G3 machine. Is it possible for me to put this new drive in my new G5 with a PCI card? If I do, can I mount it somewhere?

You'd be better off just putting it in a firewire (400 or 800) external case...Otherwise you'll be figuring out how to get IDE cables up to the drive bays and jury rig it and all... plus a firewire case shouldn't be much more than a PCI board.

I suppose the next question is: Who has the best external firewire enclosures? I expect that it'll run around $100 or so.

Another question on the enclosures that I can't seem to find a straightforward answer for: Can the 911 chipset in use use the full speed of the ATA133?

More like $30-40
I got mine from newegg.com
I just generic, but it has the 911 controller and works fine.

If you are not going for FW800 you can get those FW 400 cases for very cheap.

I saw a few ads on eBay selling the brand new FW 400 + USB 2.0 cases for around $40.

One ad with a DUAL DRIVE FW 400 case for $80
