You shouldn't, so long as it's a brand of superdrive that's been used in a mac (Pioneer and Sony are two that I know of). Just connect the cables and the Apple System Profiler will let you know if OS X sees it or not.

If it's not a brand of DVD burner that Apple's used, I think it's pretty hit or miss if it will work.

I have to agree with Q. If it's Pioneer, you're set. If it's Bob's DVD Burner, it MIGHT work.

Best bet is to check out http://www.xlr8yourmac.com and see if anyone's reported issues (good or bad) with the brand you bought.

And ALWAYS do your homework FIRST!

It was a pioneer dvr 104 pd. The problem I’m having is that After you put a cd in the drive it takes 60 to 90 seconds or longer for it to show on my desktop. I burned a cd and removed it from the drive , them put it back in the drive and would not recognize the cd at all. I have a feeling something is wrong with the dvd drive.

thanks
