I have a dual G5/2GHz.

Ran great when it was new. Then I did that firmware update.

Before the update it just woke right up from sleep. After the firmware update, it woke right up and then went right back out, then I'd wake it again and it stayed up.

Now, it does not wake up from sleep. Well, it does, then the screen goes kinda green and I never get a monitor signal. So, I reboot. Nothing but green screen, and after like 3-5 reboots, one will catch and the computer will boot.

What is gong on? What is weird is the gradual degradation of the machine after the firmware update.

Can I undo the firmware update?
Is my 9600 Pro video card breaking down?

What course of action should I take to minimize downtime? I'm a one person shop, I need this fancy cased junk heap to boot.

Perhaps you've posted in a fit of exhaustion, but you're not going to get too far with many of us by referring to the fastest and most competitive machine Apple has produced in quite some time as a junk heap. (If you're dissatisfied with it to a great degree, I'll volunteer to take it off your hands; I'll even pay for shipping.) You could go through the normal troubleshooting procedures, like examining the hard drive with fsck (or the program of your choice), and then reinstalling the OS. If you have a spare hard drive lying around, you could see if booting off of it makes any difference. If you can't fix the problem with those remedies, it's time to call Apple. I haven't heard of any G5 firmware bugs, but I just may have missed something important.

My guess is that the video card needs to be replaced. Many OEM 9600's have failed apparently.

Couple of things you can try:

1. Zap your PRAM
2. Reseed your video card (e.g. Take it out, put it back in), then zap your PRAM.
3. If you can, try a different monitor.
4. Call Apple, you should still be under warranty.

Reseat the video card (make sure it's in the slot properly)
