Hi.

Mom's new eMac/1GHz just arrived. It's a nice little machine and seems very capable. The only thing that is dampening the 'new computer experience' is the fact that the monitor is displaying what I would call static-like lines. Almost as if the machine were getting interference from another device. I have never seen this before. Best I can describe it would to call them horizontal lines, almost like the lines you saw in DVD Player before it got deinterlacing support. Except that the lines are sporatic and appear all over the screen randomly. And they seem to increase in intensity from a number of things such as opening new windows and applications and playing music.

I have run through all of the supported monitor resolutions and the problem will not go away. I have also tried moving the eMac to another room. And the lines are there from the second that the machine is turned on, even through bootup.

Any suggestions people?

Thanks.

Are you running the internal speakers if so try turning the volume down as these cause interfearence on my new emac (i solved this by running external speakers). youve said you have tried running all possible monitor configs so i presume you have also tried higher hertz in these resolutions.

Thats all i can think of hope this helps
currently being converted from pc to mac

I've tried plugging in a pair of headphones, but the problem persists. And I cant seem to change the refresh rate at any of the resolution. Only 1 is offered.

Thanks.

Try going to Apple's discussion forums. You might find others with the same problem.

The only problems I've seen there, though, are:

- Rippling when internal speakers are set to a medium or high volume
- Occasional snap sound in conjunction with a flicker of a horizontal line
- Brown, blue or yellow tinted display

Anyway, here.

BTW, I'd go on AIM but for some reason I can't connect to it right now. Meh.

I can't connect either.

Hey Luca, is it possible to change the refresh rate on the eMac? I don't see how.
