for some reason it didnt post here's my post.
I just bought a tower of ritek g04's that are non refundable and it was to my understanding that they'd burn at 2x on my powermac dual 1ghz MDD running panther with a pioneer 104 factory superdrive and all firmware up to date. It only burns at 1x for some reason. Any advice???

I have the same problem with my pioneer dvr-104. 2x burning would be great...

My firmware is 1.33.

I've read that if you run firmware 1.31 you can burn at 2x, but I can't find any information on downgrading or flashing the ROM without using Virtual PC (yikes! eww).

Help us!

;-)

Check this

Ritek G04s are 4x DVDs so you will only burn them at 1x with your Pioneer 104. Better stick to 2x media and it will burn at 2x.

That is an update for the Superdrive (stock from Apple), which is different that what we're discussing: installing an after market pioneer dvr-104 and *I've read* that it's best to update the firmware with updaters from Pioneer, which runs in OS 9. I'm afraid to run the Apple Superdrive update because it won't get me back to firmware 1.31, which is supposed to burn the Ritek DVD-R's at 2x speed.

It doesn't matter. The media you have is 4x media. Before the firmware update (even Pioneer's, not just Apple's) 4x media in the drive could damage the drive. After the firmware update, you can burn 4x media in your 2x drive, but only at 1x.
