hmm, didn't know sales were down, but I think it has less to do with people waiting for the 3Ghz as it is just for a speed bump. I have my dad waiting since January, in hind sight I would have told him to get it, but looking at history a release was expected. Now we are just waiting for the update, he can wait. :WB:

I want the 3GHz... I know it is around the corner... therefore I won't buy a G5 right now.

The best way to handle this situation still is, and alway will be: Buy whatever the current model is, when you need it. Period.

Eventually a 3GHz G5 will be released, and when it's out there'll always be people who'll wait for the 3.5GHz one.

Computers tend to get faster all the time. If you keep waiting for the next machine, you'll never get your work done.

Unless all you need the machine for is your ego.

Yep, this is a pretty common statement and I think it is true for those that continually upgrade their machines, say every couple of years. My dad on the other hand is just trying to get the most bang for his buck. I mean I really would hate to see him spend $3000 on a 2Ghz machine and then a week later a 2.5Ghz machine is released. Even if he still gets a 2Ghz machine, he's blown $500 for the privilege of owning if for a week. Now in hind sight he would have been fine, but that was decision was thought out. Everyone knows there will be an update soon. I definately won't put down $3000 for a machine right now.

Remember that Apple offeres a 10 day window that they'll refund money equivalent to what the previously "new" machine NOW costs.

[GAG]Ouch your still using your Beige G3 as a primary computer? YIKES[/GAG] I feel sorry for you. My Beige G3 is on Server Duty only now (it was my only desktop and server from October 5, 2000 - September 26, 2003 (OS X, got the G3 June 3, 1998). Then I got a DP 1.25GHZ/Super/Combo/160GB and my mom the same in December to replace her iMac DV SE 400mhz.

My Beige G3 works fine. All I do is browse the web, send some e-mail, a little BBedit, and porn slideshows with Graphic Converter. I also play Solitare and StarCraft. I'll replace it when it breaks.

Be prepared for a long wait. If Moto (ahem, I mean "Freescale Semiconductor") is actually working on making the G4 scale better, a PowerBook G5 could be VERY far away indeed. And if we can get 1.8 GHz G4s to go into the PowerBooks, then I don't see an urgent need for a PowerBook G5. The G5 might end up being like the 604e, which never went into a laptop. PowerBooks skipped straight from the 603e to the G3.

Ahh yes, but I am using mine to program and do some graphics work as well as web design. Slow, yes unbarebly, but unless someone wants to pay off some student loans or make a generous donation to http://www.tfworld.com/seti SetiLoggerX, I am stuck with it!!!
