I bought a 15" AlBook back in late December, but sold it this week as I decided I'd rather have a desktop. I never took my book anywhere because I was paranoid about keeping it in perfect shape. Since it sat on my desk all the time I figure I might as well get a G5.
Since there's a high chance of new G5s being introduced relatively soon, now I'm gonna have to sit on the cash and go Macless for at least a month. It's not gonna be easy, but it'll be worth it soon enough.
On the bright side I just bought the components to put together a pretty solid gaming PC, those will be here tomorrow so I'll have that to keep me occupied.. but it's definitely no substitue for OSX. My friends think I'm crazy since most of the apps I use (Reason, Ableton, etc) will work on my PC.. I guess if they only knew the power of the dark side then they'd understand. And it's going to be torture having the cash sitting here ready to go, knowing I can get a G5 right away.. but if I do I know there'll be big improvements and price cuts two weeks later.. :-P

Very similar situation to where I was last year. I had just sold my iMac G4 because I knew that prices were about to drop on mine (new iMacs were about to come out). I waited until new G4 Powermacs came out. The time between my selling the iMac and my 1.42ghz system was about three months. That HURT badly.
I used an old 500mhz PC as a crutch to get me through the drought, and it sucked badly. But I got really good at Half Life and Xwing vs. Tie Fighter again
Good luck with the wait, and remember if you order one of the new systems they announce there will be a long wait between the order and the shipping.

i put together my PC last night.. it's pretty frickin fast. P4 2.4ghz, gig of DDR400 RAM, 80 gig SATA150 hard drive, Radeon 9600XT 128 meg.
I booted up my AlBook to start transferring data off of it and could not believe how much better I liked the interface of OSX. Night and day difference. It almost made me want to keep my powerbook.. until I realized the point of my selling it was to get the raw speed of my PC combined with the greatness of OSX.
It's going to be very difficult not to give in and order a dual 1.8 next week.. but I can wait. Not so much that I need faster CPUs but I'm hoping to see PCI Express and maybe even Hypertransport 2.0 in the next G5s..

I just ordered the dp 1.8 G5 and took advantage of the $700 discount on RAM. Not having to pay tax on that $700 saved me another $50. What would have cost me $4,349 only set me back $3,599.
I do not care how YOU view this. I always buy APPLE OEM. It saves headaches with compatibility issues. In the long run, being in business, I always come out ahead this way. I saved about 20% and I am using it now.
It does not matter what may come out on Monday. I still have a fast, operating, long to last machine. I am doing work faster right now.

That's great, but why did it make you decide to be an asshole in my thread?
