I saw an unused beige all-in-one PowerPC (written on the case) sitting in a room at work. Is this Power Mac all-in-one the only possible machine it could be? I can't find any reference to any other similar machine anywhere.

If it is that machine, do you think it's worth getting it (maybe free) and sticking X.2 on it?

I just threw away an 8500/120 last year because it was such a @#$#@$^@#%$@#$ pain-in-the-@ss to take apart, because of the SCSI drive (dead, and my IBM replacement wouldn't initialize on it), and because of the wonky memory which would have cost a fortune to purchase.

As far as I can tell, this G3 all-in-one would use standard PC100 DIMMs which I have lying around, and 4 GB is a decent amount of hard drive space for simple use. Plus, it might even run Jag.

Why bother? Well, I would not use for much but I'm thinking I could use it for an iTunes machine or something, just for kicks. I think the only problem is finding the keyboard and mouse. (I threw away the keyboard and mouse for the 8500/120.)

Whaddya think?

EDIT: No USB either. What would be a pain. Hmmm....

Ya it is the one that looks like a molar. It is actually a great machine, I admin'ed about 30 of them at my old job, they do get very hot on top and I don't think they have built in USB so only OSX 10.2 on those suckers.

You should pay under $200 CAN for it.

It has PCI cards, get a firewire/USB card. I got a dirt cheap one for my beige tower and it works without drivers.

It's sitting there unused and has been for a couple of months. If I get it it'd be for free.

Just remember that even though you install a USB card does not mean you can put 10.3 on it.

10.2 runs great on those machines just have at LEAST 320 RAM in it.
