Ok, I think I remember right, that you should be able to boot from the Install OSX CD by restarting the computer and holding down the "C" key while it starts up. Correct?

I attempted this last night, and the computer would flash a folder and a "?" at me for a while, then just boot from the Harddrive.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

I even attempted to change the System Preferences to boot from the CD drive, but got the same results.

HELP!

Does the disk work in another machine? Is it an official copy?

Weird stuff can happen when you copy bootable CDs.

The disk I am trying to boot from is my original Jaguar Install Disk 1. (From Apple, out of the purchased box, official Apple part no., etc, NOT A COPY OR PIRATED CD!)

I am also trying to boot from my original Tech Tools CD, but get the same result with it, the alternating folder with the happy Mac face, and a folder with a question mark.

I just ordered Panther, and it should be here early next week. If it doesn't boot, though, I won't be able to install it....BUMMER!

Well, I was able to boot from my original eMac software restore CD last night. It must be a problem with my Jaguar CDs...good thing Panther is in-transit!

It could also be CD drive related. However, it is odd that you booted off the CD to install the OS and it doesn't work now.

Yeah, that really has me confused.

Anyway, Panther showed up Friday, and installed almost painlessly. I haven't really noticed any improvements with Panther yet. Maybe it will grow on me....
