Thanks to everyone here that provided good, friendly advice on purchasing my first mac. I just bought (and received... ) my new G5 dual 1.8. I know everyone recommends going with 3rd party RAM but I decided to get a gig of mac ram anyway. I know, it was probably foolish but I've had bad RAM experiences in the past so I just went with it.

Until I receive the Adobe CS suite in the mail, I won't be able to put it through any "big" challenges, but I'm diggin it so far!

I still can't believe the OS boots up faster than my monitor comes on (still using my old pc monitor Sony G420). Outside of my fumbling with the OS so I can learn how easy it all works, are there any resources anybody can recommend to learn OSX?

Thanks!

Welcome aboard

Just use .. use ... use and don't be afraid to poke around a bit. We all started at the same spot at some point. If you know windows, get used to there being much more consistency within the OS and between different apps on the Mac. There is a learning curve, but generally there are fewer "rules" and, more importantly, few exceptions to contend with. Best resource to get started ? Go to Finder -> Help -> Mac Help. Click on the "New to Mac OS X ?" link and then the "For Windows Switchers" link in the sidebar. The first two topics are "Where is the ... ? (Windows to Mac Glossary)" and "Useful keyboard shortcuts" are a couple of things you might wanna look over one evening.

Welcome !!

MacOSXHints used to be an excellent resource, but lately the hints seem to be less useful. But if you're having a problem, it is a good first place to hit.

Any book on the subject by David Pogue is excellent. I have his Missing Manual OSX Jaguar book, really good. Of course, you'll need the Panther version......

Just remember one thing about OS X as well. Multitasking actually WORKS. You can do mroe than one thing at a time without choking the system. It's always great to be able to burn a CD or DVD while listening to iTunes, while browsing and doing other things.

Robin Williams makes good OS X books too.

Also, since it's a new Mac, you probably have a .Mac trial. There is a few video tutorials on 10.3 for members.
