Quicksilver G4 won't go to sleep

So the Quicksilver dual 1 ghz G4 that I use at work just suddenly stopped sleeping a few weeks ago. I finally had time to mess with it today, and did the usual: repaired permissions, fsck, ran DiskWarrior, etc., thinking it was a software problem. At the point where I booted to single-user mode to fsck, lines and lines of text kept scrolling down the screen, to the effect of:
USBF: 67.957 [0X1331200] (Reset) USB Generic Hub @ 3 (0x18200000)
The number following "USBF:" changed, but the rest stayed the same every line. I tried unplugging everything from the USB ports (Apple Keyboard with Apple Mouse plugged into it, and a little Quark license key dongle) and sometimes unplugging both devices connected directly to the Mac and then reconnecting them would stop the scrolling — sometimes it wouldn't. After getting back from single-user mode, I checked my system.log and saw something similar:
localhost kernel: USBF: 22.695 [0x12fd600] (Reset) USB Generic Hub @ 2 (0x18200000)
These lines repeated, again with the same variation, through most of the boot process, and then stopped. If I go back through the log, I can see them at every boot.
I have tried booting without anything plugged into USB — still no sleep, and same errors. I tried booting into OS 9 — still no sleep. So it definitely appears to be a hardware problem. I am trying to track down the Hardware Test disc for this machine, but haven't had any luck yet. Has anyone seen something like this before? Any suggestions for a fix? Nothing besides sleep seems to be adversely affected, at least not yet. But I'm still concerned.
Thanks.
(I did try and search before I posted, and found nothing. If I missed a previous thread and this one is redundant, my apologies and please point me in the right direction.)

There is a little button on your logic board. Unplug your machine from power. Press the button. Wait 15 seconds. Plug it back up. Your problem should be gone. If not, verify the battery reads at least 3.6 volts. If the battery is good, you have a bad logic board.
99% chance the button push will fix your problem.
It's called a PMU reset. Every mac since the slot-load iMacs has had a PMU on the logic board. If you do a search for PMU, you should find a significant amount of information.

Wow, thanks. I didn't realize (or maybe forgot) that G4s have PMUs too. I've reset many an iBook and PowerBook's PMUs, but never a G4.
Unfortunately, that didn't seem to help. After the PMU reset, I plugged only the necessary items back in, booted into single-user mode, and still the scrolling text about the USB Generic Hub. I don't have a voltage meter so I can't check the battery right now. I also sometimes have problems logging various users in, so I'm in the midst of a Panther archive and install right now to try and make sure I'm not dealing with two separate problems here.
I'm assuming the next step would be to run the Apple Hardware Test CD, right? I really need to figure out where someone stashed that.

Does the machine boot up properly? Have you checked the Apple System Profiler to see what the machine sees on the USB Bus?
Did the PMU reset fix the sleep issue?

The PMU reset did not fix the sleep issue, unfortunately. I haven't checked ASP yet, but I will the next time I'm in the office and I'll note what the machine sees on the USB bus.
Unfortunately, I'm not the real admin, just a user with admin privileges on this machine. The actual admin is mostly a Windows and UNIX guy, so his Mac experience is quite minimal. He has admitted such (hence why he gave me an admin account on this G4), but I think he's feeling like I'm stepping on his toes with this issue for some dumb reason, so I'm hesitant to do much additional troubleshooting.
He did supposedly run the hardware test when I wasn't around on Friday, and found no errors. So I dunno, I'm stumped, even if I wasn't afraid of pissing him off.
