Ok, im a little new to the world of mac, but I'm off to a rough start. I have 1.5GB of ram in my G5 (a pair of 512's and a pair of 256's). The problem is this - about three days after getting my computer, it randomly said i needed to restart. I did this, and afterwards the computer seemed to be running slower than normal. I looked in system profiler and it now only says that i have 1GB of ram. Upon seeing this, i shut the computer down, pulled out the memory sticks, put them back in, and then booted the computer back up. The computer again recognized that i have 1.5GB. This lasted for a few days and then it happened again, and it seems to continually happen. Every time i pull and reinsert the sticks, it acknowledges that i have 1.5GB for about two days, then tells me i need to restart again and drops back to 1GB. Anybody got any idea what this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

(if you need my system info, im running 10.3.3, Dual 1.8Ghz, and 1.5GB RAM)

This usually happens if you buy cheap RAM (generic).
I believe the G5 is a little more temperamental with its RAM too.

Sounds like bad RAM. The message to restart that you're getting is a kernel panic.

You'll most likely need to get the 256s replaced. They're failing in some way that the computer only recognizes the 512s. To be sure, take out the 256s and run the G5 for a few days. If you don't get another kernel panic, you'll know for sure.

Oh, and most RAM has a lifetime warranty of some sort, so getting the 256s replaced shouldn't be too much of a problem.
