I've had my imac for just over three months and today my display will not work. Worked fine last night when I put it to sleep but today, nothing but a black screen. I thought perhaps I had turned down the display, but did not. However, when adjusting the display it does go from flat black to a lighter shade of black. Any advise or has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks in advance.

Is the display a problem with the LCD iMacs when they are put to sleep? I hadn't heard about this. I'd like to know more if more info is out there.

Thanks.

I've had my 20" iMac for about that long too. Mine's working fine. If you can't seem to wake it up, power it down by holding the power button for at least 5 seconds. This should force shut it down. Then after a few more seconds "just time enough for the hard drive to spin down", restart and all should be ok.

Update:
I ended up speaking with the Mac Tech Support and was advised to take the imac back to the apple store for service. I did so and was told the they thought that the problem was in the neck. However when I replied that I had really not adjusted the screen via the neck, I was given a funny look. The tech took the machine behind closed doors to attempt to "reset" it, but was unsuccessful. I am now w/o my machine and start my next quarter of grad school tomorrow. As an apple user since 1986 (apple 2, apple 2gs, mac classic in '91, biege g3, 12" ibook and now this imac) I've never had a problem. This is extremely discouraging and hope that it is not an indication of things to come. While I will remain a mac user for the unforeseeable future, it is my sincere hope that the problems I've had are isolated and not widespread. Thank you all for you input and I will post updates as provided.

Wow you bought the cadillac of imacs and it had a problem, that sucks

Sounds like the inverter went south on you. The 'dead screen' problem seems to be rather rare, actually.

Just got a call from my Apple store and my computer is ready for pick up. Seems as though the logic board went bad, a repair of well over $600. Thankfully I purchased the Apple Care package. Please consider this as you decide to upgrade or otherwise purchase a new machine. As stated in an earlier reply, I've been through a number of machines without problems, but have always purchased the extended warranty. This time has more than made up for money "lost", and I look forward to an uneventful future with my imac. Thank you to all that responded and those that offered support.

I have had a 20" iMac since November 03 with no problems with the display. Just a stoke of bad luck I think. After repair or replacement you should be good to go.
