i know this should be in networking, but i need help ASAP. my computer is a g4 dual powerpc 1ghz OS 10.2.8 im running a Netgear WGR614 wireless g router and an airport extreme card. my PCs are doing just fine wireless but my mac cant connect at all.

im not sure if i made a huge mistake. first of all, the airport extreme does NOT come with an antaenna or installation instructions. but yea, i first installed the network card upside down (serial #s not visable. yea, i know its stupid, but please bear with me. while it was like that, the mac would turn on but not load up. figured i put it in upside down, reinstalled the software and now it works fine, but wont connect to the net. scares me now that even when i try hardwiring it back up, it still wont connect.

anyways, the macnn forum gurus have never let me down. im going to try a few other options, but please, if you have any help, post it up. thanks a bunch.

Well, sorry to ask this, but... have you plugged the antenna into the card?

btw, i got it to work hardwired with the airport extreme card removed. but i just called up apple support right now, im pretty pissed! i bought the card at my local apple store, since they dont have them out on the shelf, you have to go through a store rep. to find out what to get. so i tell the guy my setup and he gets me the card. come to find out my computer cant run airport extreme. argh, back to the applestore.

Uh, yes. I was wondering how you made an Airport Extreme card fit into a Quicksilver PowerMac, but I figured you were mistaken with the gHz's since you were able to install the card.

And I though every AirPort-ready Mac had an internal antenna already...

Tough luck, maybe some PCI 802.11g solution out there?

The default login and password should work if you didn't assign one.

Aside from the problem of getting into your router, you cant use the Airport Admin utility beacuse it is for Apple Airport Basestations, not 3rd party ones.

Firstly, you should get an airport signal strength indicator on the menu bar. If not then you may need to visit the Network control panel and enable Airport as a port.
Open the Internet Connect app in Applications, select Airport. If you're broadcasting an SSID you should see it in the network field dropdown. If not then choose Other from its dropdown list.
From there you have the option to pick the WEP method, enter your SSID and wep password if appropriate.

That should be it really!

If your computer isn't airport extreme then where the heck did you plug it in?

Be sure you are typing in the right password. Macs and PCs use different password formats.
