Sometimes my internal hard drive shows up on the desktop and sometimes it doesn't. I've already got a replacement drive from Apple and it's still doing the same thing! Is it a problem with hard drives or the SATA cables? This is sooo frustrating! Everytime I startup my G5 I never know if the 250GB will load up or not. I installed an extra 160GB drive in there also and I'm not having trouble with that one so far. Anyone else have the same problems?

If your 160 shows up using the same cable, I am not sure what the problem is, especially since the drive has been replaced.

Have you tried switching both drives to the opposite bay? Top in bottom, bottom in top.

Just tried your suggestion and it works! Will post if it goes out on me again.

Thanks!

Be sure to update to 10.3.3 if you haven't done so. Many people are reporting that the drives get too hot and die out because of the heat. 10.3.3 lowers the temperature threshold so that the fans for the drives speed up at a lower temp.
