Removable media won't show up on eMac

My old eMac went to a friend. Now removable media won't show up on the desktop. I have tried two different media card readers and 2 CF card, an SD card and a memory stick. None of those show up while they all work fine on my Quicksilver.

The eMac is running os 10.3.3 and I have tried repairing the permissions. What next?

Okay, basic questions first. Have you made sure that the Finder preferences are set to show removable media on the Desktop? Do they show up in Disk Utility?
