It's interesting that all the posters on that thread were using Panther except the first one. I am using a mere 700mhz iBook with Panther and the USB hub is definitely unpredictable. If I put two pen drives in it, sometimes when I boot it will recognize one, sometimes the other, sometimes neither one. But under 10.2.8 it is perfect. There definitely are still major things that need to be corrected in Panther.

Not all G5s have this problem. I have a cheap, no-name hub I got at Sam's club that I use to connect my keyboard, mouse, and HP Printer. All work flawlessly and I've had no troubles using any of the devices...

i'm hoping that this isn't widespread with either panther or g5's. i'd like to think apple can put out better products than this. before i switch from a pc to mac i'd like serious problems like this to have been resolved.

Remind me again how 21 people is a 'serious problem?' Not to discount their experiences b/c if I were having that problem, I'd think it was serious as well, however, 21 people certainly don't indicate an epidemic of USB problems on the G5. No one in my user group has come forward with such a problem either.

At least one of those was a problem with bad RAM. Others could have been bad USB hubs or drivers.

Who the heck hooks up a USB drive to a PowerMac... all that power and you hook a drive up to it using the slowest port?

And as Q says that thread is hardly an indication of a wide spread problem. When an Apple Discussion thread goes past the 100 post mark, I'd say the problem is starting to get wide spread.

I've experienced the problem of having my g5 be asleep and the fan kick into high gear and the system being stuck that way. It's happened maybe 5 or 6 times since i got the machine in october. I have a pci usb2 card int ehre that was in a b&w for many years with no problem
