When i try to update the installation does not all for the selection of the hard drive. I am booting from a CD which has the system on it. My other iMacs updated fine, but they were running 9 and I updated to 9.1. Got any ideas about this problem?

If you are trying to go from 8.6 you will need a full install of OS 9. You can't go from 8.6 to 9.1 by using the updates.

Beyond the whole upgrading thing, there is also a good chance that you will need to upgrade the firmware. It will explicitly state this if you do. This is an easy process, just go to apple's support pages, and download the latest firmware updater. Running it will tell you what you have to do... oh, and you might have to sacrifice a paperclip...
