trying to copy files to a maxtor internal

	I am having troubles trying to copy 20 gigs of data to a maxtor internal drive from an imac. the maxtor is 120gigs and the default hard drive is 20gigs that the os is on. I formated the drive as a journaled and a non journaled up some files will just not copy t it yet sometimes they will copy to the 20 gig os hard drive... please hlp... I tried i am safe and carbon copy cloner ... but they all report errorss..
