I am a newbie to this group, but an old time Mac fan

About 3 years ago, I had an I-mac, graphite in colour.

The one thing that bothered me was the hard disk whine - loud, OK noticeable!

So, my question is; I want an eMac, has the sound got less, well, important?

The eMac's hard drive shouldn't be that loud. However, it uses a fan for cooling, unlike the iMac DV which was fanless. The noise isn't very loud or unpleasant, nothing like a typical PC, but it is there. If you want a really quiet computer, get an iMac. Current iMacs have a whisper-soft fan. iBooks are also very quiet most of the time, but if they get too hot the fan will turn on, and the fan sounds like a hair dryer.
