Hi
I have a bus powered FW400 HD that has a blue LED light on the front to indicate when it is powered on.
On my previous computer, the blue light would go out when the computer was shut down. Since upgrading to a dual 1.8 mhz G5, the blue light remains on, after the computer has been shut down.
Has anyone else come across this, or have any suggestions/solutions.
Thanks

If the drive spins down it's not really a big deal. Basically, depending on the model of your mac, the firewire/USB will still remain powered on when the machine is off. It's odd but part of the power supply's partial power specs [Most power supplies still supply a decent amount of power when "off"]

Certain Mac models supply power to FW, even when computer is turned off, because then FW-chain won't be "cut" or "interrupted". These models are "professional" ones.
Models supplying power include at least PowerMac G4 (all models), propably B&W G3 (since it'similar to G4), G5 is likely to do same, since it's newer.
G3 iMac doesn't supply power to FW (when turned off), nor does any laptop models. Don't know about G4 iMac.
Apple developer pages have per computer specs, if really interested to know/need exact information

My previous computer was a Quicksilver 733mhz Power Mac, it did not provide power to firewire when shut down or asleep, same with my current 1 ghz eMac.
Is it a feature of the G5s, to still provide power to firewire devices even when shut down or asleep?
Does anyone know for sure?
Thanks

Just one more thing,
Since upgrading to the G5, my Kensington USB 2.0 hub has been behaving peculiarly.
Devices that draw their power directly from the hub (ie optical mouse; usb modem) remain powered ON after the computer has been shut down. I have isolated this behaviour solely to the hub, as these devices power off normally when connected either to the keyboard or directly to the computer.
Any thoughts

DUDE that's simply because the hub still gives power.
The power line does not get controlled by the computer. Nuff said.

I am aware that the hub still gives power. No, this is different.
Normally when I shut downthe computer, the LED lights on my USB modem turn OFF
& the same with the light under my optical mouse.
I have tried my spare powered Logitech USB 1.1 hub,
when the computer shuts down all lights go off.
This behaviour was not observed on my pevious computer
(733 mhz Quicksilver Power Mac) with the same hub.
Maybe the G5 does USB & power in a diiferent way than before.

It turns out that the FireWire power issue that I have been having is not normal. I took my FW Hard Drive into my nearest Apple Centre where they tested it on one of their G5s; on their G5 the FW Hard Drive powered OFF when they it shut down; this was repeated over the phone with the AppleCare reps trsting a similar drive on one of their G5s.
The upshot is, that I will be getting a replacement machine, when one becomes available. Apparently supplies are short at the moment!
