I just picked up a Powermac/733/40G. Runs well, and though it has sound coming from the front speaker, when I plug in speakers in the rear output jack I get nothing. When I open system preferences and look in sound and output I get no options to click anything.

Any ideas?

Thanks

According to Apple's Spec page, if this is the Quicksilver PowerMac G4 733Ghz it has an Apple Speaker minijack and a Headphone jack. The Apple Speaker minijack is for the Apple Pro Speakers ONLY. Therefore you should be hooking up the Speakers you have to the headphone jack. Is that what you are doing?

Yes I'm doing that. The mini jack my speaker plug can't fit into, but the headphone jack I expected no problem. Instead - no sound.

Thanks

Try zapping the PRAM. Unhook your speakers first and see if you can hear the boot chime when you start up the computer.

Zap the pram - thanks - it works fine now. Just bought this machine for short money, and was thinking I was shortchanged.

Take care
