I am in need of a faster machine than my titanium G4, should I just go right a head and make the purchase of the BIG G5 or wait to see whats going to happen? If I wait is it this July in Boston or later?

Nobody knows. We typicslly get a heads-up 3 or 4 days beforehand from the rumor sites, but that's it. Some people say WWDC, but there's no telling. Very doubtful that it'll be Boston MW since Apple is not attending it at all and Steve is not the keynote. More than likely Apple will just have a "special event" when they are ready (e.g. when IBM solves their yield issues).

if you really NEED more power now, then get the loaded g5. If you can hang on a little longer id wait until after wwdc.

It won't happen at Boston. That's one prediction that I'm comfortable with.

I'd be very surprised if a 3 GHz came any time soon. I'm betting on 2.5 GHz at the next refresh. Still, a dual 2.5 would be VERY nice. It actually would use less power than the current dual 2.0 -> fan would likely rev up less often.

1. If you need a new computer
    -> buy one
2. Otherwise
    -> wait until 1 is true.

Ever since someone showed me this site, I've liked it.

Unless you REALLY need a PowerMac now, don't buy.

If you *need* a new computer, buy one.

If you can wait, wait.

However, I suggest you may be waiting a long time for 3ghz regardless of what Steve has said...

Don't rule out an announcement of a 3GHz machine this summer, "shipping" in fall.

I am in the same boat here, but I am waiting until the refresh. You know why? My Beige G3 has lasted this long, what is a few more months AND 2.XGhz > 1.8Ghz
