SETI@Home crunch time on a DP 2GHZ G5?

Just got back into SETI after doing a total of 2 units in 4.9 years and crunched in 5 hours on my DP 1.25GHZ G4 (x2 WU's) what is the crunch time on a G5? must be minutes with the 64bit CPU in there.

It actually isn't that impressive. First off, there is no 64bit SETI client. Second, SETI isn't optimized for **** other than raw clock speed. So, because of the afore mentioned, clock-for-clock, the G5s do about as well in SETI as the G4.
Last I saw, the 2GHz G5 cranked through units in about 3 hours.
And one thing to remember: Don't get caught up in the 64bit RDF. 64bit processors really aren't a whole lot faster than 32bit processors. The primary reason for the advent of 64bit technology 'NOW' was because of memory, to get past the 4GB memory limit of 32bit processors.

...additionally: The SETI team is supposedly reworking the project, and writing a new client. It is still a ways off as far as I know, but if that new client is highly AltiVec optimized/aware (Like F@H, RC5... etc are), then you will likely see Dual 1.42GHz G4s run SETI as fast or faster than the Dual 2GHz G5s since the G4 is significantly more powerful when it comes to AltiVec than the G5 is.

So SETI 3.0.8 isn't Altivec aware? I know it isn't DP aware either. When the Altivec/Dual Proccesser version comes out, a WU that takes 5 hours now on my DP 1.25GHZ G4, how long would it take then? I saw that Star caculation demo in 99 when a none Altivec aware app could only do 2K stars and it was not smooth at all, but same computer Altivec aware app crunched 30K stars and it was as smooth as silk.

Nope, no AltiVec yet. Which is why the G4 does work units in about the same time as an Athlon at the same speed, if only a little faster.
How long it would take with AltiVec optimizations depends totally on the SETI group and how AltiVec optimized they want to make the next SETI. I don't follow F@H much, but RC5 has excellent AltiVec optimizations and because of that the G4 runs RC5 almost 7x faster than the Pentium 4 and about 3.5x faster than the Athlon.

I recently saw a post in a powerbook forum, where Thermograph was used to measure the temp of certain processor operations: Turns out SETI was responsible for the highest temperatures, higher even than fairly intense game play.
Would anyone be will to try that out with a G5? Just curious what the temps would be with only work processing and internet browsing, then game play by itself, then SETI by itself (or in the background.)
Obviously, the heart of this question is about the heat generated running various stuff like SETI and what that means to the fans...

SETI is fairly good at loading a CPU, but for G4/5 owners, a Folding@home Gromacs unit is the maximum test. It tries to exercise the Altivec cores, along with all the other execution resources.
They are good tests for Athlons with 3DNow and Athlons/Pentiums with SSE too, Gromacs uses the vector units on each CPU that has one available. During early tests, it heated CPUs up even more than CPU benchmark routines.

My G5 1.8DP is averaging 3:05 per unit using the command line client.
I 'm running 2 different clients, one on each processor. It's cool to see them both cranking at 95%
I haven't checked the heat, but I expect that it's pretty far up the scale. I can feel it coming off the unit. It *feels* no warmer than it does during a good game of UT2004, but I haven't run Thermograph to track it yet.
