I have external powered speakers attached to the rear headphone port on my G5.
Am I mistaken in thinking that by connecting headphones to the front port, that the headphones would overide the speakers? Tried this, and sound came through both headphones & speakers.
Do I have to disconnect the external speakers in order to have sound coming solely through headphones?
Any ideas
Thanks

That's all well & good to turn the speakers off,
however, the speaker switch is on the sub-woofer,
which is located in a cabinet near the floor.
Too much work, and then there's turning them back on afterwards.
Is there an easier way to listen to music just through the headphones?

While I haven't tried it personally (not near my G5 at the moment to try), I think you can specify the output (headphone vs. speakers) via the Sound preference pane.

I think I've fgot it igured it out!
The Sound System Preferences seed the headphones,
where the speakers are seen as line out.
However, the trick is, to turn the volume control on the external speakers right down,
and control the volume for the headphones from the keyboard volume controls.
The conflict seems to be between the external speaker's own separate volume controls and the G5's keyboard, system based, volume controls.
