Hi All

Hmmm

This is one of those annoying things that I kinda took for granted when I got my Mac just on a year ago, being a switcher, that it would just, well, work.

I'm talking about using video mirroring to show my iPhoto slideshows etc on a TV.

I have the 1 ghz 17" Imac, w/512 mb ram, superdrive etc, and it has the mini VGA output port, and I have just purchased the correct adapter from an Apple reseller, with the s-video and composite outputs.

In short I cant get it to work. The only help I've been able to find on Apple discussions mentions pushing the connector in harder. Hmmm,,,,,

Apple help identifies the different adapters for connecting to a TV, v's to another VGA display, and I have the right adapter. It also mentions it is 'plug and play' and at first without giving it much thought, I connected it with the mac on, and tv off, then turned the TV on and selected the appropriate input. No joy.

I've since tried two different s-video leads, a composite lead, completely retuned and reset the TV, and read and re-read the instructions to no further avail.

Curiously though, help was a little ambivalent, in that it suggested to just literally connect mac/adapter/tv etc, however, in a another section of help it suggested turning computer and tv off first.

So I tried that, figuring rebooting with it all connected might do the trick. Nope, nada.

I note in system config, that video mirroring is noted as being off. Of course there is no way to 'turn this on' or any other adjustment (s) I can find.

At this point, I'm out of ideas, and thought I'd ask my pals here at MacNN if they have any clues?

All comments appreciated

Cheers

I had a bit of problems in the beginning with it, with the image not displaying correctly. It turned out that the mirroring prefs were by default set to output NTSC signal while my TV was PAL. Open the System preferences and press Monitors while the adapter is plugged in and the Mirroring prefs should appear.

Hi All

Far be it for me to publicise my own mistakes,,,, but....

I'm a gentle soul at heart, and quite careful with how I handle things.

After reading, and dismissing the comment on the Apple forums about needing to ensure that the plug was fully inserted, I re-checked that, and,,,,,,,

That was it!

So now it works A OK.

Embarssingly yours

Cheers
