I run 2 monitors on my 450 single proc G4. Recently one of the monitors has been showing a scrambled display after startup. Basically, everything on the screen looks shattered and crumpled up. The problem doesn't go away. I've switched the monitor cables and ruled out any problems with the monitor itself. My next step was replacing the video card. I replaced it with a new card of the same type. When I startup I get the same thing.

Anyone else had this problem? Could it be software related? Or does it sound like a hardware issue. What would it be if so?

Like I said above, I've switched the monitor cables and replaced what I thought was a faulty video card.

I'm running 10.3.3.

Try setting a lower refresh rate. If you enable the "Show displays in menu bar" option, you can select settings for the second monitor from the menubar.

A picture of the 2nd monitor's output might be helpful.

It isn't the monitor causing the problem. I plugged in my the other monitor into the same slot and reproduced the problem on that monitor. Seems to be something with that slot only. I've replaced the videocard and that had not positive impact.

I'll try to get a screen capture later. In the mean time, any movement on the screen creates graphic trails and windows that look compressed and broken up. Turning off the monitor or mucking with the monitor settings don't change anything.
