The screen is turned on, right? Also, is it only when it goes to sleep and you wake it?

but the other monitor...the vga... is not taking a power draw from the ati card. The vga monitor has a power cord(?) correct?

ok, ok....i just took a trip to my local apple store (best solution). 20 miles to my LOCAL apple store jus tto see if the monitor actually works. turns out it does work, very well at that. I guess it must be the video card. I just upgraded to use the cinema display because the stock card doesn't meet the requirements. Apparently the ati radeon agp that i bought sends over power just fine but work send over the video. I guess I need to shell out some hefty cash for one of those nvidia geforce3's. they're like 3 times what modern video cards go for....haha...thanks for all the help anyways though. from one machead to another, it really was appreciated.

Sounds good. You will love the LCD. It is the best one for its size IMO.

I think that the GeForce2MX that came in the early Quicksilvers will work in a Cube if you replace the bracket on it with the one from your old card. You'll need to verify this, but I believe it is the case. As a bonus, they have no fan on the heatsink, so they're pretty quiet.

I've seen 64MB models with ADC/VGA ports on eBay for $120 or so.

FYI, you can take your little Cube with the display and hook it up at the Genius bar, they can help you out on the spot.

Plus, I'm sure people new to Apple (and even the Genius) would appreciate seeing a Cube.

It's funny you say that because they might not even work on the cube just looking at it. First off, I put some wood contact paper as a skin so it looks like a wooden cube. Very chic. haha....secondly, I've replaced pretty much everything inside. Not warranty anyways, but it would've definatley been voided. haha. I didnt need to go to that extent anyways, if it wasn't the monitor it had to be the video card. I had just put it in like a couple weeks ago anyways. P.S. it was a pain just to take the display in there. I had to lug it around the mall. that sucked. PPS They dont help you out on the spot anymore either. They have this new queuing system where you have to sign in on any of the various macs throughout the store and the wait, usually 15 per person in the queue. I was lucky, I only had to wait 15 minutes, but when I left the line of 4 people was an hour long....I would've never stayed that long....sorry for the long post

FWIW I recently bought a 20" Apple Cinema display on eBay and it works great with my OEM GF3 / Cube setup in OSX. I'm actually using it via IOGear KVM (ADC version) between my GF3 / Cube and Radeon 9700 / Tower. This is one SWEET monitor! The quality is very much improved over my previous 22" ADC. Better colors, better contrast, better dark greys, wider viewing angle, etc. But if you're into FPS shooters (Quake, Unreal, etc) the slower pixel response is still noticeable compared to my CRT.

One other oddity is that my Cube bus powered speakers aren't quite as loud when connected to my new 20" ACD as compared to my previous ADC monitors. I'm not sure if the 20" ACD passes along the special higher USB power from the Cube and Tower ADC ports. Not a big deal for other Macs that don't use those bus powered USB speakers. But it may be a minor inconvenience for Cube fans...........joe
