I need soonish a speedy g5 (but the 2GH is a year old now..)and I was wondering if I could I rely on a new machine 1st gen g5 2GH+?...
are the G5s rock steady?
I need the beast for heavy Video use...

Well, the new G5s are reported to be running fine. but you can run into bad luck with OS Panther stability, but thats entirely based on luck.

3rd LogicBoard, 2nd HD and power supply,... I do not know luck... (well I have a beautiful girlfriend! ;o)

You are damn right!
I am waiting for apple to change my machine for an iBook G4, then it might be safe!
I ll give it couple of monts before I buy anything so... I ll follow your advice.
But anyway, even if Apple had a new machine today, I wont be able to have one (all the way hidden over there in Copenhagen DK that I am!!! ;o) before 3 to 4 months!...

me neither!
I have a 8600 and it is rock solid!... just bad MF luck with this number...
I hope a new G5 and "Tiger" (the new Mac OS) will do the job...
(getting 3 AM here better find some sleep..)

I picked up a G5 1.8x2 the same day they came out and I can count on my thumb how many times it's crashed. The machine and OS have given me no problems. No issues, but I would like a better graphics card...

The stock video cards for the g5 are not that good. always upgrade to a 9800 atleast.
