I have an iMac 350 slot loader that I can't get working.

It all started one morning and it could not find the hard drive. So I started it with my 9.0.4 cd and it couldn't find the drive either. So being the smart guy that I am I tried one of my other cds. I thought techtool might have some luck.

I mistakenly used Techtool 4, the one I use for my other systems. It booted up with the new grey apple screen and promptly shut itself off. Since then it boots up then turns itself off again after 7-10 seconds every time. After removing the bottom I found out that the Quantum Fireball had just flamed out.

I have taken off the bottom removing ram and battery letting it rest. Replacing everything. Resetting the PMU. No help.

Now I have totally disassembled the computer and disconnected the PAV connector from the board. Even going to these extremes didn't solve the problem.

One strange thing I noticed. If I remove all the RAM and boot the computer doesn't shut itself off. Granted it doesn't do anything but its something.

I also have a G3 Pismo and I highly upgraded Beige G3 if I need to reformat a drive and apply the correct firmware.

Please give me help/hope before I go out of my mind.

The only possibility is if you can come across another slot-load iMac that has not had the firmware update installed. On this iMac, you will have to start the process of updating the firmware to the point where you shut the machine down. At this point, switch the logic boards. Now, start the machine up holding down the programmer's key. The firmware update should attempt to run.

The problem is that without the firmware update, you are screwed. If the logic board powers off during the firmware update, you are also screwed.

Your chances of getting this logic board working are slim to none. Sorry dude.
