I have a B&W with a G3/800 upgrade card. My problem is anytime I accidently hit the tower with my foot or chair or anything else, it locks the computer up (cursor freezes). Then pressing the reset switch will often not reboot it (no chime). I have to do this several times, sometimes through trial and error, I've found that opening the case and booting it with the door open seems to work, but then half the time when I close it ever so gently, it locks up again, and the whole process starts all over.

Sounds like a definite hardware problem, but any suggestions? And buying a new G5 is not an option right now.

Thanks,
Kevin

I had numerous similar problems when I changed from a Beige to a B&W. This was with a 600MHz G4. The problem turned out to be in the RAM. This surprised me as I had transferred three 256 modules that had worked perfectly in OSX 10.2.8 in the beige with the same CPU but were the cause of trouble in the B&W running Panther.

Thanks for the suggestion. But I tried every combination using my 2 existing 256MB Ram chips, and still no help.

Also, sometimes when it boots up, rather than hearing the chimes, I hear static, just like an AM radio.

Any other suggestions?

Kevin
