This is something that I'm not familiar with but where I work, there is a lady asking me if she could install panther on blue/white tower g3..(not sure the specs yet). How much of mb for g3 towers must have to have panther? I need feedbacks and help. Thanks!

It will run just fine. I've done it. I would recommend at least 256MB of RAM.

The B&W G3 is the oldest Power Mac that Panther still fully supports. So yes, it can be installed.

It should run pretty well, even if the G3 has a lower clock speed because Panther seems to have brought a good bit of and likely the final dose of G3 optimization to the table. The only real worry I would have is the amount of memory. I do believe that Panther requires 128MBs to install, but anything less than 384MBs, even if the machine will see light use, would not be a good idea.

Ok I would recommend her to have at least 384 mb to play safe... Many thanks! I appreciate it.

of course, one could always check apple's web site and easily find the tech specs for panther: http://www.apple.com/macosx/upgrade/requirements.html

I used to run Panther on an iBook G3 466 that used to down-clock to 366 with energy conservation on.

Over 300MB RAM and 10.3 ran fine.

Should be better on a B&W tower due to the extra system bus.

I have it installed on a B&W G3/350 and it runs great as a server. I don't use the GUI much on that machine, but it works fine.

A friend of mine has a 300MHz clamshell iBook (tangerine) and runs 10.3 on it with no issues as well. I'm sure it's not the fastest machine, but it ran 10.2 a lot better than 10.0, so 10.3 is probably better still.
