Thank you Captain Obvious. I thought the computer industry would stop after the G5 was released. Thanks for clearing up my confusion.

Here is the best part:
ATI RAGE XL™ 8MB video
The quad Opteron coupled with the awesome power of the video card should allow tons of Doom 3 play!

Tyan has lead the way for server motherboards for some time, and this only emphasizes their continuation of providing the latest and best technology. Their quad-Xeon systems were extraordinary, and these just blow me away.
Don't confuse the markets, though. The PowerMac isn't that far behind, and the revisions at WWDC should help narrow the gap in the desktop market. In the server market, Apple is ahead/behind, depending on how you look at it (I'm rather pessimistic for them, suggesting that the XServe is some great deal behind Intel and AMD, but that's for another forum).

I'm not going to get into the argument of whether or not the G5 is behind in the server market. However, keep in mind it is not simply a funciton of who can put the most FLOPS inside one box. I'd guess an Altix, or some other system like that would take the cake, hands down.
One, of the important features in the server market is price/performance. Other issues include power consumption and heat dissipation, as the more you spend on air conditioning, the fewer nodes you can purchase....

The wholesale price of this motherboard is over $2800 without the CPU's. By the way I know some people who build custom Linux systems using PowerPC and they use up to 32 processors. Somebody put a lock on this thread.

Not that I wanna spoil all your flaming moods but that's a server mainboard. Tyan also has mainboards with AGP 8x slots which means that you can put in a Radeon 9800 or X800 for about half the price of the Mac version of that card
