I've read that these machines have been ultra sensitive to RAM... I've tried quite a few different types of RAM and have gotten the same result -- OS X runs very unstable and it shuts itself down after 15 minutes or so.

I've had the logic board replaced, thinking that was the problem... but with no luck.

Has anyone else had similar experiences?

Please let me know if you've found any types of RAM that work well.

How many DIMMs do you have installed in the machine? You could try running the machine with only 1 DIMM in at a time for 30 minutes or so using each DIMM to see if one is causing the problem.

I've tried every combination... without the factory ram, both installed together, 3rd party in first slot...

Same result every time.

Thanks.

I'm doubting it is a RAM sensitivity problem then. Sounds more like the logic board or the CPU...

Who did you buy your RAM from?

I have two gigabytes in my PowerMac G4 and when I installed it, I was having a lot of problems. I eventually discovered that RAM slot J20 on my motherboard wouldn't accept a 512MB stick but it would accept a 256MB stick. I called Applecare and Apple replaced the motherboard.
