I Guy`s,
I have no dout that this will be moved soon , but I posted it here be cause it relates to an eMac.
Right now I have an old (5 1/2 yr`s) iMac and have IE & Outlook Express files that I don`t want to lose when the time comes for a new computer.
Is it possible to "import" my old files to OS-X`s browser and Mail program?
If not how would I be able to access them.
I tried printing the History & Favorites files name but so far that has been unsucsessful.
What do folks do , I`m sure I`m not the only one with an old Mac thinking about that sorry day when you have to say "good by" to an old but faithful (if you call 3 HD drives faithful LOL), and up-grade but don`t know how to get files to a new SYS OP.
I have an external F/W HD for back up.
Any and all help would be GREAT and many thanks !!
Sorry Mod`s that I posted here , but like I said it`s realy about "eMac`s" ( or iMac) towers may have diferent firmware ~~?
Anyway Thanks
Jedi

This is tricky stuff. There have been various solutions throughout the history of these products and the precise methods have changed. You should be able to export your favorites pretty easily, but the email could be tough.

I think your best chance would importing from Mail and Safari.

Here's my recommendation. If you eMac will handle it, install OSX (use the disks that come with the new Mac). I believe you can import to Mail and Safari in OSX. I know I somehow did it when I upgraded.

Then, once the old machine is up and running on OSX with your imported stuff, you can bring all the old stuff across to the new machine with a simple Firewire cable - it's a new setup assistant thing in OS 10.3.

There are probably other ways to do this and I've made some assumptions about your eMac that may not be valid for my solution. Hopefully someone else will know more than me and give you other options. But search these forums and web for other ideas.

Hi Zoom,
Thanks for your help.
Right now I have an iMac that is about 5 1/2 yr`s old. PayPal won`t let me in , so I had to download Netscape just to do business on eBay !!
Anyway (wheew--got that off my chest) I have all my stuff backed-up on a small Fire-Fly HD , but i see what your saying.
Just connect the two computers and let them chat away !
Now -- Can the lastest OS-X run Outlook Express and Internet Explorer ??
Or is Safari sooo much better that I`d be a nut-case LOL to use IE ?
I know that unless your used to AOL (e-link here) Netscape is a pain ., or I just haven`t gotten used to it yet !
Thanks , take care.
Do you think an eMac would be a good replacment ?
Of course I would have to wait til` after MacWorld. I just hope that thye fix there little video board problem , I see that now there having iBook issues GEEE not the Apple of old days !
