Check this out on NewEgg. Does anyone know if this is compatible with OS X (maybe even OS 9)? I know it doesn't list OS X as a compatible OS, but my friend but a Samsung for his dual 1GHz, and he thinks it was this one, but now he's not sure, and I just wanted to verify with my dear MacNN nerd friends if it is compatible or not, and possibly find out where I can find resources—maybe through Apple or somewhere else—on drive compatibility.

Thanks, guys. I wasn't sure if this should go in Peripherals—since I am curious about it working in my Power Mac and with OS X (possibly OS 9) but if the mods think so, so be it.

My machine: dual 800 QuickSilver.

Try XLR8 Your Mac's drive compatibility database. I had a hard time finding that exact model though... the NewEgg listing says "SM-352NENB" for the model number, but the only drive compatibility entries are under 352N or 352B.

Either way, I think the best Combo drive to go with in a Mac is still the LG GCC-4480B, which is fully supported in everything and available on eBay (discontinued). I just did a search there for GCC-4480B and I got a bunch of results - all are Buy It Now, most for $50, and a couple used ones for a bit under $30.
