Hi! I'm new here, and I'll be making the switch from PC to Mac very soon. I'm planning on going into architecture, and I believe a Mac will work best with all the graphics heavy applications I'll be using. Anyhow... I'm a huge hometheater buff, and I'd like to make my new PowerMac the center of a decent HT. I'm hoping I'll be able to use the digital audio outs to connect to my DD/DTS receiver for digital surround on DVD's and use the receiver as a video switch with the 23" Apple display as the monitor for all of it. This would require running several video sources into the receiver and one S-Video cable from the receiver into the PowerMac. Is it possible to add video inputs to the new dual G5 systems (through a PCI device, perhaps), so video components, such as a Playstation, XBox or receiver with on-screen menus, could be displayed through the computer and on that gorgeous 23" screen? I know there are devices for conversion from analog to digital, but is there a device with zero delay, so that, for instance, gaming on the XBox won't produce lag time between button presses and what's shown on screen. I know that the EyeTV produces a 1.5 second delay. Is this the fastest conversion available? Thanks for any help, and I'm sorry if any of this seems unclear. It's been a long day. Sigh...

Sure

You only need an Alchemy TV PCI card,

this one comes with the DVR software

this one lacks DVR software

Note that there are specific G5/G4 and G4 only (it also works on G3) cards versions, but I think that nowadays the card for G3/G4 are sold out. So, no problem for you and your G5.

If you also want to replace your old video recorder buy the card that includes the Digital Video Recorder software, your Mac'll record it, and is really cool.

And the great news, NO delay playing your video games.

Check here some picts of a Alchemy PCI card 'running' a GAMECUBE title on a G4 / Apple TFT display.

And using this hint, you can view and record HDTV materials if you have the cable box.
