I am thinking of getting a G5 but am deciding about buying from a local Apple vs online Apple store. Either way I have to pay sales tax.
The only BTO option I desire is the bluetooth module. Is it worth doing a BTO or is a usb bluetooth adapter just as good. I have a usb bluetooth adpter that I use to use on my iBook.
thanks in advance.

Do you want the dongle hanging off the back or front of the machine?

I have the D-Link adaptor plugged into one of my USB hubs for use with my G5.
Never give it a second glance, and if I want to use BT with my G4 powermac I can just plug it into that instead...
To me it is a real non issue.

The antenna that accompanies the bluetooth module on G5s is only slightly smaller than the USB dongle itself, so you still have a protrusion from your case. I think the better question here is do you want one of your USB ports taken up by something you can easily get installed internally?

They should act the same, if you don't need the ports or don't want to wait for a BTO then get the USB version.
Most people have USB hubs tucked away anyway so it shouldn't be a problem.

It really comes down to how many USB devices you use and can you afford to give up the USB slot for the dongle? Functionally, they'll work the same. I got the module simply b/c I use a lot of USB devices and didn't want to have to swap the dongle in and out when I wanted to use something else. YMMV.

Remember your keyboard and Apple monitor have a couple perfect USB 1.0 ports for something like this.

unless the reason you want bluetooth is for the keyboard and you want to buy a better/cheaper monitor. if you can wait get it internally i would do that.

Yep. i stick my in the top/front of the newer keyboard. I also stuck it in the back of my cinema display but do not for some reason any longer.

The only theoretical advantage (other than not wasting a USB port) is that the internal USB module gets a whole USB 1.1 bus to itself. Plugged externally, it has to share the external USB buses.
