I want to upgrade my G5 video card. Currently i have the stock ATI 9600 and i had it since November. What i have in mind is ATI 9800 Pro Mac SE 256MB. Should i wait for X800 although there are no announcements by ATI on the Mac version of the card. Any advice on this?

I have been using my G5 for photoediting and video editing (photoshop/iMovie). I'm also currenly learning FCP. And not to forget games.

Thanks in advance.

my set up is;

Dual 2.0 G5
IGB RAM
23" Apple Cinema Display

With ATI, we'll probably be waiting 6 months for the Mac version of the Radeon X800. If you can wait that long, I'd say wait, because I don't think going from the Radeon 9600 to the Radeon 9800 Pro SE is worth it. If you can't wait, the best would be the Radeon 9800 Pro SE.

Unless you need the ADC port, I would suggest going with the regular 9800 Pro Mac Edition. The extra 128mb of ram in the Special Edition only comes into play at very high resolutions with anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering engaged. Otherwise there is almost no speed difference btwn the two.

Here's a link with some benchmarks comparing the two from Barefeats:

The website is very informative. The benchmarks really help.
