Did Apple drop the price of their RAM?

I didn't see anything on the Apple site about a memory sale but I see 1.0GB PC3200 DDR400 is going for $300 where previously it was $500.
Can anybody confirm this? Is this a new price or a sale? I'm logged into the Education section of the site but I don't think this is the reason the RAM is cheaper... the price has always been the same for education or not in the past.
Thanks for any info!

Even if they did Apple is the most expensive place to get RAM from.

I know most people on this forum recommend Crucial to purchase cheaper RAM but most Mac problems seem to occur from faulty third party RAM. I'm a new Mac user so I like to eliminate all potential problems by keeping third party products out of my Mac. If this isn't the best approach to have, I welcome any sound advice.
thanks

I've been buying my memory from crucial for years and (*knocks on wood*) have not had a problem with it. I'll be buying more for my G5. The 1 gig kit (2x512) is a $100 less then what apple is selling it for.

Most of the problems stem from no-brand 3rd party RAM. Apple most likely gets its RAM from one of the major vendors-I doubt they manufacture it themselves. I've been using two 512 MB sticks in my G5 for almost a year now and it's worked flawlessly. With the warranty provided by Crucial, I don't think you can go wrong.

Can I expect any conflict problems with Apple RAM and Crucial RAM? I have 1 GB of Apple RAM in my Dual 1.8 now.
thanks
