My Strawberry 266 has been sporadic when it comes to starting up: it will occasionally start after days as if it had been working fine all along, then run perfectly, and test perfectly on all test utilities (Techtools, Norton, Diskwarrior)until shutdown or restart, then it may or may not start up again.
The symptoms are as follows: The chime doesn't sound when I push the power button, but I hear other whirrings of startup (fan? not the hard drive) and the power LED goes on Yellow-Orange, rather than
green. The screen remains black. Subsequently, to turn it off, the keyboard start button does nothing; only the CPU start button
(illuminated) turns it off.
I figured the PRAM battery might be weak (it was over 5 years old), so I just changed it, and it still doesn't start.
This whole thing happened again last night. After sitting unplugged for a few days, on a whim I plugged it in and pushed the CPU start button. No chime nothing but the wirring of the fan, then I used a paper clip and reset the iMac and it came on. I ran alot of tests, reset the PRAM, restarted it several times both via a utilities disc and without a disc. No problems. then this morning, nothing.
I have been running the latest OSX Jaguar for over a year with no serious problems, I have 512MB of RAM installed again with no problems until recently.

Thanks for your help!

Did you push the button on the logic board when you replaced the battery?

Thanks for the reply. Yes I did push the tiny
button in the corner of the logic board.
