Hi

Out of curiosity could someone load a picture showing the G5 Superdrive getting ready to accept a disc or ejecting a disc?

Just like to see what it looks like whether it is tray loading or not.

This makes me wonder.....why not put slot-loading drives in the Power Macs, like the Powerbooks? They put them in the iMacs for a while, didn't they?

I think that would be much more elegant. But I am no engineer, so there is probably some very good reason for the tray-loading.

1. Slot-load drives cost more.
2. Slot-load drives are typically only available later than equivalent tray-load drives.
3. Slot-load drives are, for the most part, notebook drives, and are thus generally slower.

Slot-loading drives cannot handle unusual media (mini-cdRs, business card CDs, etc.)

Slot loading drives are harder to fix when your 2 year old decides it is a good place to 'deposit' pennies into.

Warning: Slot-load drives may cause premature blindness, suffocation or pregnancy. Use only when wearing proper eye protection.
