As topic says... is this possible? If I could get one of the "old" dual 1.8 G5s from special deals and still get my edu discount on it, that'd be grand...

as it is, I'm having a hard time figuring out whether to buy the new or the "old" 1.8... both were the same price for me when I looked. Now the 1.8 isn't showing up at all.

Money is a bit of an issue for me, but as I'm heading off to school, my parents are buying a computer for me. I really want a Mac, and I'd not be able to live with the lack of expandability of other models... plus desk space will be an issue, so the eMac is out.

As a CS major I'll be given a PC laptop to use after a quarter or so... so I'll steer clear of Mac laptops... two laptops is more than I need.

Sorry I got off topic... just felt like writing I guess

So... will my edu discount show up later? if it isn't standard, is it something I could talk an Apple rep into or something?

Thanks

Not sure if Apple will admit that the "old" dual 1.8 is really "old" if you know what I mean, but it's worth a try... call'em!

The edu discount is quite substantial if you pile up other items like screens, cards etc.. You can also financeit for 3 months interest free if you have the right credit line.

I don't think you are going to get a discount on top of something already discounted. When I bought my Dual 2.0 GHz through the Apple Store education program, if there were refurbs available, that was the price, no additional discount.
Cheers,

i think the last poster was right. if i order through the developer program refurbs aren't available; they're only available if i go through the normal apple store without the dev. discounts.

My ed experience as well, though it never hurts to ask.

It's either edu discount OR refurb discount, not both.
Also, if you can snag an old DP1.8 for the same price as a new one, do it; it's a better machine (it's a DP2.0 with slower CPUs rather than a SP1.6 with an extra CPU soldered on).
Be happy.

Sign up for an ADC developer account, costs $99, but you will save more than that on a G5 ($400 on low end, $500+ on the others), plus a couple hundred off of LCDs and the like. There is a special Apple Store for Developers where you can check out the prices before you go ahead with it:

http://developer.apple.com/students/sthardware.html

http://store.apple.com/AppleStore/We...ADC?qprm=38839

Check it out- it's what I'm doing in a week.

hit up your University computer store, many times they sell there demos when products get updated, like the G5 line. i remember when the new powerbooks came out we had a 17 1.3ghz that we let go for 100 bucks cheaper then the original edu price because it was and older model.

I GOT WASTED WITH PHIL SHERRY!!!

The price I saw for ADC was $500... where'd you see $99?

The $99 applies only to students and does not include access to the ADC Seeding Program, Developer Technical Support, or the ADC Compatibility Labs. But you do get a one time hardware purchase discount.
