Phew... My wife didn't kill me for doing this, I got my iBook sold and was FINALLY able to get to the fifth eleme... er... Generation. This thing really flies... I just hope it'll prove itself once I get all my MIDI/Audio stuff installed. So far so good (can't get the stupid grin out of my face), but...

I was browsing this forum beginning of this year and saw a couple of threads about power unit problems that manifested themselves as some kind of "chirping" noise. What I discovered almost immediately was the fact that if I use Expose stuff or move some windows around the G5 makes these chirping noises. (This rev A is from January, location EU, Finland). So am I going to have to ship this thing for repairs? I haven't yet installed the Audio hardware as I'm afraid it will be useless if I'm correct about this...

Other than that... the machine is so quiet, robust and... erm... excellent beyond words. I just had a WLAN card installation for my XP machine a while back and it still doesn't work (I coulc write a novel for all the trouble and Sh*t I went through with that one). I got the G5 today and was able to get (securely; WPA personal) online (installed AirPort Extreme) in 10 minutes (still grinning like a fool).

The chirping noise is pretty common. However, not everyone has the same hearing abilities. I hear incredibly loud high pitch noises at some places that are there to run birds off... but my wife hears nothing. It's only a problem if *you* think it's a problem. Still, I'm not even sure there's a solution.

Anyway... we bother looking for problems? Get the AppleCare and be done with it. Then, if you have *any* hardware problems in the next three years, you don't have to worry about it (you should still backup your data on a regular basis).
